Zed

Use the Cocobox MCP server from Zed's Assistant Panel.

Last updated

Zed’s Assistant Panel supports MCP context servers. Cocobox connects in a few lines.

Prerequisites

  • Zed 0.180 or newer.
  • A Cocobox sk-coco-* API key with toolsEnabled: true. See API keys.

Configure

Open ~/.config/zed/settings.json and add a context server:

{
  "context_servers": {
    "cocobox": {
      "source": "custom",
      "command": null,
      "args": null,
      "env": null,
      "transport": {
        "type": "http",
        "url": "https://api.cocobox.io/v1/mcp",
        "headers": {
          "Authorization": "Bearer ${COCOBOX_API_KEY}"
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

Restart Zed. Open the Assistant Panel — the cocobox server appears in the list of available context sources.

Use it

Add the cocobox server as a context source for your conversation, then prompt as you would in any other MCP-aware client:

Using cocobox, describe the schema of the orders table on the production connection.

Tips

  • Zed’s MCP support is evolving quickly — keep Zed up to date for the smoothest experience.
  • If your settings file uses comments (//), remove them around the context_servers block; Zed parses it as strict JSON.
