Workspaces

How workspaces, members, and billing relate in Cocobox.

Last updated

A workspace is the unit of billing, access control, and resource ownership in Cocobox. It owns:

  • Connections, snippets, chats, and audit logs.
  • Provider keys (BYOK) and API keys.
  • Plan, credit balance, and invoices.

You can be a member of multiple workspaces. Each is fully isolated — switching workspaces is a one-click context change in the top bar.

Create a workspace

Sign-up creates a personal workspace named after you. Create more from Settings → Workspaces → New workspace.

Common patterns:

  • One per company — most teams.
  • One per environment (acme-prod, acme-staging) — when you want hard isolation between environments.
  • One personal + one team — keep your tinkering separate from production work.

Members

Workspace settings → Members:

  • Invite by email — invitees get a link and choose a role on accept.
  • Remove with one click — the member loses access immediately.
  • Transfer ownership — useful when a founder hands the workspace to a designated admin.

Workspace roles vs. connection roles

Two layers of permission:

LayerRolesControls
Workspaceowner, admin, member, guestBilling, member management, defaults, AI settings.
Connectionread, run, edit, adminWhat you can do on a specific connection.

A workspace member with no connection roles can log in but sees no databases. A connection admin who’s only a workspace guest can fully manage one connection but cannot invite users or change billing.

Switching

Top-bar workspace picker → search and click. Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + W to open the picker via keyboard.

Leaving

Settings → Workspaces → Leave. Your snippets and chats remain in the workspace (they’re owned by the workspace, not by you). To take them, export first.

Deleting a workspace

Owner-only. Settings → Workspaces → Delete. Soft-deleted for 30 days, then permanent. Final invoice is generated immediately on deletion.
